Common Travel Myths

Unraveling Common Travel Myths

• If you use your cellphone, the plane will crash.
• Cruise ships are all-inclusive.
• If you rent a car with a credit card, you don’t need additional insurance.
• Taking the train in Europe is cheaper than flying.
• Recirculated cabin air on planes will make you sick.
• X-ray machines at airport security checkpoints can erase your computer’s hard drive.
• Your hotel card key can be used to steal your identity.

These are just some of the things many travelers believe to be true. And, in fact, with a couple of qualifications, they are nothing more than the latest batch of travel myths.

• Let’s start with the Blackberry/cell phone myth. Every airline flight attendant makes more or less the same announcement, insisting you turn off your cellphones and Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and other personal electronic devices because “they interfere with the plane’s navigational systems.” If you ask if it’s a rule, the flight attendant will tell you it’s FAA policy. True or false?

False on both counts. First, the FAA has tested personal electronic devices, including iPods, Gameboys and laptops. Their scientists—for more than 25 years now—have bumped up the RF interference these devices give off, up to 100 times their normal levels, at distances of less than three feet from sensitive cockpit avionics. And guess what? Nothing happened. Nothing has ever happened. So did the FAA make a rule? Or a policy? Not exactly.

Under the current federal air regulations, the FAA simply states that it was unable to prove any connection or link between operating these devices and airplane system interference. But it hasn’t made a rule; it's left to each individual airline to set policy. So, if you insist on ignoring the flight attendant by using your Blackberry, you may be in violation of an airline’s policy (and subject to arrest for interfering with a flight crew). But no, the plane won’t crash because you were sending emails.

• First-time passengers like to think that “all-inclusive” cruise means you can put your wallet away for a week. True or False?

Keep your wallet with you. Not long ago, what you paid for your cruise (exclusive of liquor) was the sum total of expenditures. Not anymore. Think of cruise ships today as multiple floating revenue centers. Some cruise lines are now charging a flat fee for unlimited soda, and even a wine-and-dine deal that includes wine or champagne with your dinner (about $125 for a seven-day cruise). But the key to cruise ship profitability can be summed up in two words: onboard revenue. A new rule of thumb for budgeting your next cruise: Take the basic cruise fare and multiply it by 1.75 per person.

• Oops, you just backed into a parking meter. Not to worry, your personal auto insurance covers damages to your rental. True or False?

The answer in most cases is true, but with a big warning from us. Credit card companies promote their promise to cover your insurance if you rent a car using their card. As a result, a number of unsuspecting renters who don’t own a car—and thus don’t have their own insurance—think they are covered by their card. Not so. Almost all credit card companies offer something called “secondary insurance,” which only kicks in when you’ve exhausted all the limits of your primary policy. And if you don’t have a primary policy, then you are not covered at all. Even if you are covered, check your policy limits. If the car you own (for which you pay personal insurance) is only worth $5,000 and you total a car worth $20,000, you’re out $15,000.

• Trains are the way to go within Europe if you want to save money. True or False?

Definitely false. While I have always been in love with trains, and I think back fondly to my days using a student Eurail Pass, the dollars-and-sense truth today is that trains are not economical alternatives to air travel. Low-cost European airlines are now cheaper than intra-European train travel. On Ryanair, an off-season round-trip flight from Rome to Frankfurt can be as low as $90. By comparison, a point-to-point train ticket from Rome to Frankfurt starts at $326 each way and takes about 12 hours of travel time.

• Many travelers contend that the way cabin air is circulated makes the plane a prime breeding ground for colds and flu viruses. True or False?

In my experience, the answer is a qualified true, but there is no scientific proof. First, the cabin air: Modern jet planes were designed to bring in air from the outside at high altitude. In theory, the extremely cold air (about 40 to 60 degrees below zero) is then heated by the aircraft engines and circulated into the cabin, purging the old air. But there’s a problem. This procedure costs fuel and fuel costs money, so many airlines simply recirculate the air already onboard the cabin, bringing in a very small amount of new air. So you may well argue correctly that if the person in seat 2B has the flu, you’ll be breathing his air back in 35E. But to date, no definitive scientific studies have proven that allegation. Still, my advice is to hydrate yourself while on the plane, wash your hands often and turn off the air vent over your head.

Myth: Your plastic hotel key card can be used to steal your identity and credit card account information.

False: Simply put, hotels do not put your personal information on the card. At the most, they will encode the room number and activation date.

cows milk, cheese cream except yoghurt and cottage cheese
fruit, fresh, juice or dried (some fresh fruit can be added after three weeks under the direction of your therapist)
mushrooms
peanuts and peanut products
Enjoy the following foods:-
Onions and garlic,
Fresh vegetables and their juices (beware of carrot juice it contains a lot of sugar) Rainbow salads are good,
Rice cakes, oat cakes (unmalted) ,Ryvita, sesame and original only,
soya milks, butter, cottage cheese and yoghurt.

(2) To kill the yeast:-
Caprylic acid or mycropryl (natural remedy from coconuts - kills candida, available from our main site www.junglesale.com)

Nystatin - anti fungal drug (available on prescription)
Garlic treatment - eat a fresh clove raw, can be washed down with milk, water or olive oil - three times a day with or after food
Biotin (inhibits candida)

To replace important nutrients
Take a good multi vitamin and mineral, vitamin C and any other nutrients prescribed by your therapist. At this stage chromium should help to control blood sugar.

To re-colonise the gut
Take probiotics - Lactobacillus acidophillus, bifidus
FOS -fructo oligo saccherides
Eat natural yogurt daily

To treat the genito-urinary tract
Douching with either:
fresh aloe vera juice
propolis tincture
garlic water (crush a clove in water - strain)
insert : yoghurt
aloe vera jelly

To repair the Intestine
Avoid foods that you may be sensitive to. Cow’s milk and milk products and wheat are the most likely here. To reduce the strain on the immune system and to allow the maximum absorption of the nutrients you are advised to combine your foods and to rotate them. A simple explanation of food combining is not to eat proteins and carbohydrates at the same meal because they are digested in different acidic environments. A rotation diet works on the principle that it takes five days for traces of a food to be removed from the body. Eating a food type only every five days means that:

* the immune system has a chance to recover by not being subjected to the same allergens everyday.
* when food is re-introduced after five days an adverse re-action will indicate that your body is intolerant to that substance.
* Eat plenty of fresh vegetables, organic if possible to provide essential nutrients and antioxidants to repair the immune system and fibre to help repair the digestive system.

I am a Bad American

I am your worst nightmare. I am a BAD American.
I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some mid level governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!

I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way, damn it!

I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything.

I'm not in touch with my feelings and I like it that way, damn it!

I believe no one ever died because of something Ozzy Osbourne, Ice-T or Marilyn Manson sang.

I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer.

I believe it's called the Boy Scouts for a reason.

I don't think being a minority makes you noble or victimized.

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, you'd better do it in English.

I don't use the excuse "it's for the children" as a shield for unpopular opinions or actions.

I think fireworks should be legal on the 4th of July.

I think that being a student doesn't give you any more enlightenment than working at Blockbuster. In fact, if your parents are footing the bill to put your pansy ass through 4 years plus, of college, you haven't begun to be enlightened.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and whoever canceled Jerry Springer.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time arguing about it.

I think global warming is a big lie. Where are all those experts now, when I'm freezing my ass off during these long winters and paying, paying, paying?

I've never owned a slave, or was a slave, I didn't wander forty years In the desert after getting chased out of Egypt. I haven't burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut-the-Hell-up already.

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson practices, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you're running from them.

I also think they have the right to pull your ass over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.

I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me crap or trying to guilt me into making "donations" to their cause.
I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.

And what is going on with gas prices... Again?

I believe 'illegal' is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.

I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in AMERICA !

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.

If you are a BAD American too, please forward this to everyone you know.
We want our country back!

If I could offer you one piece of advice...(again)

Now that the holidays are over, I thought you might like to read this again and maybe snag yourself a fun Valentine's day date... Guys, If nothing else, at least read this so that maybe one day it'll pop back up in your brains and you'll take what I have to say to heart. Ideally, you'll all stop to think about my words and maybe even some of you will finally take some action.

Let me start by saying that, yes, we women have taken many matters into our own hands. We've come a long way. Education is valued so that we may maintain our independence. Careers are valued because of the desire to possibly make a difference in the world. Along the way, we've learned how to be pretty self-sufficient.

We own our own houses.

We manage to buy houses (and cars, and major appliances, and...) on our own.

We take care of those 'major' purchases on our own.

We are active.

We are intelligent.

We are educated.

We lead our own lives.

And, much, much more.

However, with that being said, we DESPERATELY desire for you to come approach us. We love for you to say hi, or nod hello, or just simply acknowledge we're alive with a knowing glance. Many of us are not going to just turn our backs and ignore you (I say many because there are some who think that this is okay. Women, this is for you: It is NOT okay to treat someone this way.)

We want to be pursued. We want to be chased and romanced. We ABSOLUTELY want you to treat us like a lady and use your best manners when taking us out.

Heck, we want you to ask us out already!

Let me end this rambling by saying this: If there's a gal you're thinking about who has generated SOME spark of interest in you, ask her on a date. Take her out. Let her feel special because, I guarantee you, she will do the same for you in return if things work out (and I'm not getting vulgar here). Even if things don't go beyond that date, you've at least made someone's day by making them feel special and you've created good karma for yourself.

It's time to start taking a hold of the reigns again. Come on...you know you want to!

Oh, sorry, one more thing: If she decides to make that first move, don't freak and worry that your masculinity is at risk. Also, just because she approaches you doesn't mean you're off the hook as far as 'being a man' is concerned. If you've forgotten already, reread the above. :)

The Law of Detachment

The Law of Detachment ... In detachment lies the wisdom of uncertainty . . . in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning. And in our willingness to step into the unknown, the field of all possibilities, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe.

I will put the Law of Detachment into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:

1.Today I will commit myself to detachment. I will allow myself and those around me the freedom to be as they are. I will not rigidly impose my idea of how things should be. I will not force solutions on problems, thereby creating new problems. I will participate in everything with detached involvement.

2. Today I will factor in uncertainty as an essential ingredient of my experience. In my willingness to accept uncertainty, solutions will spontaneously emerge out of the problem, out of the confusion, order and chaos. The more uncertain things seem to be, the more secure I will feel, because uncertainty is my path to freedom. Through the wisdom of uncertainty, I will find my security.

3. I will step into the field of all possibilities and anticipate the excitement that can occur when I remain open to an infinity of choices. When I step into the field of all possibilities, I will experience all the fun, adventure, magic and mystery of life.

"You and I are essentially infinite choice-makers. In every moment of our existence, we are in that field of all possibilities where we have access to an infinity of choices." -- Deepak Chopra

INTERNATIONAL THINKING AT ITS BEST!

What is the truest definition of Globalization?

Answer: Princess Diana's death.

Question: How come?

Answer: An English princess

with an Egyptian boyfriend

crashes in a French tunnel,

driving a German car

with a Dutch engine,

driven by a Belgian who was drunk

on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling)

followed closely by Italian Paparazzi,

on Japanese motorcycles;

treated by an American doctor,

using Brazilian medicines.

This is sent to you by an American,

using Bill Gate's technology,

and you're probably reading this on your computer,

that use Taiwanese chips,

and a Korean monitor,

assembled by Bangladeshi workers

in a Singapore plant,

transported by Indian lorry-drivers,

hijacked by Indonesians,

unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen,

and trucked to you by Mexican illegal's....

That, my friends, is Globalization

Mass. clinic launches fertility test that measures egg supply

Mass. clinic launches fertility test that measures egg supply
Boston Business Journal
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 - 9:32 AM EST

A Massachusetts clinic claims it will be the first in the northeast to offer a fertility test that measures how many eggs a woman has.

Fertility center Boston IVF of Waltham, Mass., said on Tuesday that it will begin to sell Repromedix's Plan Ahead test, a blood test that uses a variety of elements to measure a woman's egg supply. The test is intended to help women who are planning to have children after their late twenties, by measuring three ovary-related hormones.

A woman's ability to have children by natural conception depends on having enough eggs, a supply of which declines as a woman ages.

Repromedix is also Massachusetts-based; Its headquarters are in Woburn.

Boston IVF is one of a select number of fertility centers who will offer the $350 test. It's expected to launch in major markets through 2008.
